The COVID-19 pandemic brought about by the respiratory disorder Covid 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has caused destruction around the world. In the United States as of April 18, 2020, there were 690,714 detailed cases and 35,443 deaths. To control the spread of SARS-CoV-2…social limitations, travel restrictions, and stay-at-home requests were necessary. Numerous states in the US gave stay-at-home orders with the exception of necessary travel (e.g., acquiring food, prescriptions, clinical treatment) or for work in fundamental organizations (e.g., medical care, law enforcement, etc.).
Although these measures were effective in controlling the spread of Covid, they had a serious impact on society leading to social, financial, and psychological issues. Quarantine conditions are associated with alcohol abuse, depression, and post-traumatic stress order symptoms. Isolation from friends and extended family, for many women, provided an opportune time for their partners to indulge in abusive behavior. Therefore, for women already dealing with partner abuse issues, the stay-at-home orders caused more stress and suffering in the family unit.
